The College of the Atlantic was established in 1969, as an alternative to a traditional liberal arts college. It is a private, close-knit educational community located at Bar Harbor, Maine. There are currently about 307 students enrolled in the college.The college offers a unique interdisciplinary learning. There are no departments. The students have the freedom to design their own majors selecting from 3 main resource areas: Arts and Design, Environmental Sciences and Human Studies. The college grants the Bachelor of Arts and Master of Philosophy, both in Human Ecology.
